Yoga Calm Principle/Lesson Goal: Strength

Props/Music Resources Required: Music & CD player, Chime, Hoberman Sphere, Yoga Mat, Chair, Boy and a Bear book

Lesson Plan:

Calm

  • Chime – Ring chime and ask students to raise their hands when they no longer hear the chime.
  • Belly Breathing – with Hoberman Sphere: 10 breaths – Invite one child to lead the breathing – Ask the other students to give the leader a compliment – Close your eyes and notice how calm and still the room

Activate

  • Superman – With both arms and legs stretched out, lean to the left, then to the right, like Superman making turns in the air while he is flying. Then bring your arms out to the side, like an airplane.
  • Yoga Calm Top Ten – w/o Pulse Count
  • Volcano Breath – Send happy thoughts to each other or someone they love (while doing Volcano Breath)
  • Roots – Feel the four corners of your feet rooted to the mat (while doing Roots)

Calm

  • Chime – Ring chime and ask students to raise their hands when they no longer hear the chime.
  • Relaxation – Read “Boy and a Bear” book
