Yoga Calm Principle/Lesson Goal: Grounding – Staying Grounded In Challenging Times

Lesson Plan:

Calm

Belly Breathing with Hoberman sphere (student-led).

Pinwheel Breath with pinwheels. Focus on gently spinning the pinwheel for 10 seconds.

Activate

Pinwheel Breathing while walking in tempo to music.

Pinwheel Breathing while patting the hand of a partner to the beat of the music, while spinning the pinwheel. What did you experience while doing this activity? Lead short discussion on how to stay focused during challenging times.

Tree: Imagine a friend or loved one holding your foot to the ground for support.

Tree Challenge: Try to maintain your balance while a friend distracts you by jumping up and down and acting crazy! Switch legs and roles.

Warrior I in pairs facing one another. Stay focused and notice one another’s strength.

Warrior II: Notice how strong you feel as you extend out through the top of your head, tail, feet and arms.

Calm

Back Drawing for one minute with quiet music. Draw a picture of the person in front of you being strong in some way. When the minute is up, whisper to the person in front of you what you drew.
