Yoga Calm Principle/Lesson Goal: Listening

Lesson Plan:

  • Stillness –  Belly Breathing with the Hoberman Sphere. Watch as your classmate gently draws the sphere in and out, in and out like the balloon you inflate in your belly as you inhale and deflate as you exhale.
  • Grounding – Woodchopper: Gain class energy, focus and stimulation imagining a piece of wood that you are taking an ax to. Say, “Huh!”
  • Strength and Community – Shoulder Clock: Pair students by height as best as possible. Keeping top of head reaching up start shoulder clock at one o’clock and count hourly backwards until you reach six o’clock. Switch sides/arms.
  • Listening – Chair Twist: Using chair, review and practice twist one time on each side (reminding about gentleness).  Have a student lead the class, one time on each of the other sides. Depending on the time, allow for more compliments.
