Yoga Calm Principle/Lesson Goal: Stillness

Class Intention: Main principle I want to convey- Stillness
How I will set the tone to create a therapeutic environment- Yoga mats in a circle.  Relaxing music during the guided relaxation.  Which specific challenging behavior am I trying to address? No problem behavior, just wanting to teach skills for finding stillness
Intro:  We always start this class with “My name is __, and I am here.  We see you.”  We also will share one way that we’ve used something that we’ve learned in Yoga Calm class outside of class.

Lesson Plan:

Calm

  • Breathing Techniques – (integrating principle-based & social/emotional language):  Belly Breaths using the Hoberman Sphere; student volunteers for the Hoberman and for counting; compliments.

Activate

  • Yoga Flow – (Yoga-Based Movement integrating principle-based & social/emotional language): Go through the “calming routine” including pulse count, mountain, upward mountain, forward fold, tree, downward dog, and child’s pose

Calm

  • Eye Pillow Activity – (Relaxation integrating the physical, emotional, and cognitive experiences from the lesson plan): Make eye pillows (socks, baggies, rice, pillow mist).
  • Relaxation – Listen to guided relaxation while using the eye pillows (using the book, Goodnight Caterpillar).
