Yoga Calm Principle/Lesson Goal: Listening

Lesson Plan:

Follow up from previous session/discussion of homework. Introduction to focus of class for today. “ Today we are going to be talking about listening to our bodies, minds and hearts, taking time to notice how our bodies are feeling, what we are thinking about and how are we are feeling emotionally.”

Calm

  • Breathing – with Hoberman sphere and pulse count

Activate

  • Arm swings – with positive self talk
  • Belly breathing – while lying down on mat
  • Brief exploration – “Notice how your body is feeling right now. Are there areas of tension or tightness, parts that feel relaxed? What is your heart telling you…are your feeling happy, excited, worried, sad, calm? What is your mind telling you? What were you thinking about?”

  • Discussion about changing the channels…how changing our thinking can help to calm us and change our moods; when would be a good time to use this? Which images did you like the best/find the most relaxing?

Calm

  • Ending brief exploration – “Remember a time when someone said something very kind about you. Can you hear those words right now? Who was that person? Can you remember three good things people have said about you? How does it make you feel to hear good things about yourself?
  • Group members will be given a written copy of positive statements to refer back to
