Yoga Calm Principle/Lesson Goal: Stillness

Info:  Students are adolescents at the Area Learning Center ages 12 through 15.   Yoga Calm class would be at 10:25 after four other classes and before another required seat-based class.

Setting the tone/creating a therapeutic environment:  Open class with some upbeat music matching and accessing their restless energy from morning of seat based learning.   Ask students to bring in an item to use as focal point in beginning of class.  Take turns using them for focal points.

Calm

  • Breath-Work – Belly Breathing
  • Volcano Breath
  • Pinwill Breathing – while walking in circle.
  • Opening remarks – Today we will practice returning to stillness despite high energy that is around us and in us at times.   By practicing this, we will increase our ability to bring balance and control to our lives which sometimes feel out of control.  We will give ourselves the ability to choose wisely how to act and free us to become who we want to be.
