Lesson Plan:
Materials: music and cd player, chime, hoberman sphere
Calm
- Gather in circle and ring chime
- We come in everyday and the morning feels so busy—we have a lot happening before we even start our school day. Does the chime help you calm down and be still? Why?
- Share out
- Breathing – with hoberman sphere – child led
- Whenever we are on the rug we have to sit still? Why?
- Share out
Activate
- Cat/cow
- Roots, mountain, upward mountain – Feel the stillness in your body
- Mat flow – (in tree—even if you feel yourself swaying or you fall out, is there anything that feels still? If you are balancing in tree, is your mind quiet and still?)
Calm
- In relaxation…
- How does your mind and body feel right now?
- Does yoga help you to be more still?
- What happens after you come in from recess or just played a basketball game?
- Read the Quiet Book and transition to Reader’s Workshop
- Reading is a time when we have to be still in our bodies so that our minds can concentrate. What will help you today?
