Yoga Calm Principle/Lesson Goal: Listening & Stillness

Lesson Plan:

Materials needed: Yoga Calm Posters, Mats, the book Zero by Kathryn Otoshi

Calm

Belly Breathing

Encourage students to think of something about them which is unique and special.

Activate

Roots: Stand tall with your shoulders back, hands by your sides and gently close your eyes, begin to circle right and left noticing how your body feels and keeps you balanced. Think about what makes you special.

Mountain: Coming into stillness, listen to your body become quiet and open your eyes.

Tree Pose: Begin to focus on something that is not moving, shift your balance to your left side, move your right leg into a comfortable position against leg (kickstand, against calf, thigh…monitor for students who place leg against knee). Listen to your body and move hands to heart center and upward as able. Switch sides.

Ask students how it felt, providing feedback and support.

Tree Partner: Pair students together, complete tree pose.

Encourage cooperation among students, listening to each other and themselves.

Tree Circle: Complete tree pose.

Feedback, cooperation, listening.
