Yoga Calm Principle/Lesson Goal: Community

Lesson Plan:

Calm

  • Belly Breathing – after first few breaths, ask them to imagine the people in their life that support them (friends, family, teachers, neighbors). Envision all of these positive, supportive people surrounding them with love and strength.

Activate

  • Tree
  • Tree Circle – How is Tree pose with the support of others? Use orb and discuss importance of each member of the community, how we are “out of balance” without each other, how we impact each other. Give students opportunity to take turns leading tree circle.

Calm

  • Child’s Pose
  • Belly Breathing – Move to back, deep breaths, meditate to soft music for several moments. Tune inward to “inner wisdom” – what do you need today? How do you contribute to your community?
  • Discussion Questions – How do you/can you contribute to your community? Why do we need community?
