Yoga Calm Principle/Lesson Goal: Community

Lesson Plan:

Calm

  • Breathing Ball – We are going to take our hands and place them on our belly and when we take a breath it should feel like a balloon expanding and when we exhale feel the balloon deflate. All eyes on the ball and let’s watch the ball open and close as we breathe.
  • Volcano Breath – Take your hands and clasp them together right at your heart’s center. As we take a deep breath in from the core of the earth, we will reach our hands up towards the sky and we exhale like a volcano erupting.

Activate

  • Mountain Pose – Feel your feet firmly on the ground, heavy and rooted.
  • Modified Dancer – Feel your feet grounded in the earth and holding you steady.
  • Star – Imagine yourself stretching and reaching out wide opening your chest.
  • Mountain Pose – Feel your feet firmly on the ground, heavy and rooted.
  • Forward Bend – Hang your head down and feel the stretch getting deeper and deeper as you hang. Feel it in your back and your hips too. Notice the calm that comes from this stretch.
  • Upward Mountain – Expand your body and stretch towards the sky, lifting and opening your chest.
  • Forward Bend – Hang your head down and feel the stretch getting deeper and deeper as you hang. Feel it in your back and your hips too. Notice the calm that comes from this stretch.
  • Shoulder Clock – Notice the stretch that you can share with your partner and the team work that happens making the clock go around gently.

Calm

  • Back Drawing – Tell them the story about the rainstorm and flowers growing.
  • Back Breathing – Sink into the earth and relax into each breath.
