Lesson Plan:
Calm
- Belly Breathing – Students participated in belly breathing each time they attend group
- Discussion – What is trust? Allowing kids to give definitions of trust and helping kids identify support systems in their lives. Giving kids the opportunity to trust their peers
- Introduce the theme & activity – Explain to the group how strong a tree is. Giving students many visuals of storms, rain, and sunshine to represent the different seasons that trees live through. Allowing one of the group members to pick a Yoga card and lead us in the tree pose. Once group members have done the tree pose on their own the group will get in a circle for the tree circle. Asking group members to feel how their partner’s support helps them to stay rooted into the earth

- Tree – Stand with legs and feet together. Shift your weight onto the left foot. Slowly bend right knee and draw your right foot up placing the sole as high as possible on the inner leg … without strain. Activate your body press and press standing leg down, rooting your-self like a tree to the earth. Press palms together in front of heart to help with balance. Then stretch arms and head up like branches to the sky while rooting your standing leg.

- Belly Breathing – get group back together seated in their chairs ready to relax to the chime.
