Yoga Calm Principle/Lesson Goal: Grounding

Lesson Plan:

Warm up/Community: Mat Tag

Intro Remarks, Grounding: Remember to say to self during hard poses: “I am strong, I am in control, I can do it.” Review four points on feet and hands.

Move to Mats:

  • Seated belly breathing
  • Rock N Roll
  • Boat – grounding

Standing Pose/Flow:

  • Mountain
  • Up Mountain
  • Forward Bend
  • Bent Knee Lunge (right leg back)
  • Downward Dog
  • Plank (hold for a count of 10)
  • Cobra
  • Down Dog (hold for a count of 10)
  • Bent Knee Lunge (left leg back)
  • Forward Bend
  • Chair
  • Up Mountain
  • Mountain

GO THROUGH 3 TIMES – HAVE KIDS LEAD

  • Tree Circle

Transition: Volcano Breaths

Back to Mats:

  • Alternating Arm/Leg Kicks
  • Childs Pose

Relaxation: Boat Ride p. 136 – end with grounding images – come back to mat, feel your body on the mat grounded

 

Questions/Refection, Notes from Boys Class: I wanted to put in Woodchopper but was not sure where to put it in. I did pulse count after tag to quiet things down and that worked really well. As with the girls class last week, I needed to provide a small break after our standing work before we went down to the mats again. Well, I knew it would happen sometime ….one of the boys farted where we were doing the rock n roll! I think I handled it well but it sure caused a chain reaction of giggles and fake fart noises. You gotta love 11-year-old boys!!!!
