Yoga Calm Principle/Lesson Goal: Stillness

Lesson Plan:

Calm

Belly Breathing with Hoberman Sphere (student-led). Imagine expanding and opening your breath like a spring flower.

Activate

Volcano Breath: Imagine again your breath rising from your belly like a beautiful flower.

Roots: Feeling all four corners of your feet on the ground, grow your roots deep as you lengthen your body through the top of your head just like a beautiful flower. Sway in small circles knowing your roots are holding you firm.

Crescent Moon: Breathing in, can you think of your favorite flower? Imagine that you are that lovely flower bending gently toward the sun. Lengthen both sides of your body. Repeat on other side.

Star: Think of a daisy; activate your arms, legs and body as you lengthen your petals, sharing your beauty with all those around you.

Calm

Ask students to be completely still for 30 seconds. Imagine a beautiful garden with fruit trees, flowers and vegetables of all kinds. Breathe in all the wonderful fragrances. Listen to the birds as they sing and play in this beautiful place. Imagine a cozy, quiet and peaceful nook by a small gurgling brook. Nestle down in this place and enjoy basking in the warmth of the sun and the peacefulness of this moment.
