Yoga Calm Principle/Lesson Goal: Community
Belly Breathing: with Hoberman sphere (student-led).
Activate/Relax: Play music that is soothing but lively. Have the children walk to the beat; stop the music when it is time to activate.
Shoulder Clock: Pair children by height where possible. Breathe into upper chest and spread fingers; exhale and move arms back “one hour” (12 inches) at a time.
Tree: Imagine that three of your friends are holding your foot to the ground keeping you strong. Close your eyes and feel their support.
Tree Circle: Imagine a beautiful forest with all the tree branches reaching out and supporting one another. Imagine a gentle breeze rustling through the branches. Imagine a calm, still day and the branches are perfectly quiet and still.
Trust Walk/Sensory Adventure: Discuss friendship and the importance of balance. Sometimes you lead and sometimes you follow – it is important to do both at the appropriate time. Discuss the importance of trust. What does it mean to be trustworthy?
Mindful Moment: Take a moment to remember the names of all the people in your family. Think of aunts, uncles, grandmas, grandpas, brothers, sisters and close friends. Imagine them making a circle around you when you are in need of support and love.
