Yoga Calm Principle/Lesson Goal: Listening

Lesson Plan:

Calm

  • Volcano Breaths and Pulse Count – See if they can focus on their pulse while trying to distract them.

Activate

  • Mat 15 – (Mountain to Mountain) – While you’re moving through the poses, listen to your body. Can you stretch a little more? Or do you need to be a bit gentler with your body and ease up? Sometimes, when we listen to our bodies, we realize that we need to take a break; in that case, you might want to go into Child’s pose.
  • Communication Game
  • Arm Swings
  • Alternate Arm/Leg Raise – Encourage them to use modifications if that’s what their bodies need (keeping toe on ground)
  • Twist – (on mat)

Calm

  • Relaxation – Use guided imagery to take them on a journey on a magic carpet. Take them to the beach, to the mountains, to a river, to a city – what do they hear in each place? Finally, take them inside themselves, encouraging themselves to listen to their hearts, minds, and bodies.
