Yoga Calm Principle/Lesson Goal: Community

Lesson Plan:

Calm

  • Belly Breathing – Hoberman sphere breathing-one student from ASA will lead and the other student will count the breaths. Point out teamwork. Have students join in using hands as a Hoberman sphere in unison.
  • Compliments – the leader will choose 2 students to give compliments, the counter will choose one student.

Activate

  • Tree Pose – Stand with legs and feet together. Shift weight to the left foot. Feel the four corners of the left foot pressing into the ground and picture your foot growing roots into the ground. Slowly bend the right knew and draw the right foot up, placing the sole of the right foot on the calf/shin. Activate your body by pressing your standing leg down into the ground. Root yourself like a tree into the earth. Press your palms together in front of your heard to help you balance. When you feel balanced reach your arms up and grow branches, while still rooting down with your other leg. Repeat on the other side.
  • Tree Challenge 2 – I will start by having 2 students modeling by standing face to face with right legs in tree, right hands touching, left hands on hips, encouraging them to press back and forth for support, and then out to the sides without falling off balance, then have them switch arms and legs. The goal is to move together and support each other. The class will then pair up to try this together.

  • Belly Breathing – Hoberman sphere breathing.
  • Relaxation – Think about how you worked with your partner today. How did your partner support you? How did it feel to be supported by your partner? Can you think of a time during the day you’d like to have the support of a partner. What would that look like and sound like? How could you ask for that support? How did you support your partner? How did it feel to give your partner support? Can you think of a time during the day you can provide support to someone? What would that look like and sound like? How could you offer that support?
