Yoga Calm Principle/Lesson Goal: Listening

Lesson Plan:

Intro: On Carpet in Circle: Brain Talk: three parts to focus on today: Hippocampus stores memories, Amygdala Emotions can take control, Pre-frontal Cortex You can build connections to control the rest.  Write list of Activities we will do on the Board while demonstrating how it will be done behind desk/chair.

Calm

At desk:

  • Belly Breathing – Seated Belly Breathing Ball student led with counter. Listen to Rhythm of Heart.
  • Arm Swings – bring energy in – Stand behind chair Do this so we hear very little sound.

Activate

Do all individually:

  • Mountain
  • Up Mountain
  • Forward Bend
  • Lunge (right leg back)
  • Up Lunge
  • Chair Dog
  • Lunge (right leg forward)
  • Up Lunge
  • Forward Bend
  • Chair
  • Up Mountain
  • Mountain
  • Compliments – to those who tried and listened. Have a volunteer come forward to lead as I talk through the postures. Have another volunteer come lead. No talking through this third time. You are listening to yourself, telling self what to do.

Calm

  • Chair Twist
  • 3 Volcano Breaths
  • Relaxation – Head down for Story Journey; Kings/Queens in throne room. Villagers very upset with the village Dragon: He’s not helping, saying mean things, being grumpy, Keeping others from getting work done. You go out to talk to him at first very angry and you yell but he doesn’t listen or stop. Take a deep breath, take control over your emotions, find your strong inner voice and calmly tell him to stop, that he his hurting others and you don’t like that. He Listens.
