Yoga Calm Principle/Lesson Goal: Strength
Lesson Plan:
Calm
- Belly Breathing – with Hoberman Sphere: Model process of breathing with sphere. Cue to pull string from top of head to sit up tall. Ask student to hold sphere. Ask another student to count 5 or 7 breaths as we breathe.
- Compliments – Community: Have students give compliments for volunteers.
Activate
- Rock & Roll – Rock and roll 3 times, then come to standing.
- Mountain – Cue all four corners of the feet. Imagery: Imagine you are a strong, tall mountain, standing tall like Broken Top Mountain. You are unshakable. You are covered with strong rocks and a dusting of snow. Small animals scurry about. A gentle breeze blows. Strength: Cue students: what makes you feel strong like a mountain?

- Sun Salutation Sequence – do once per side, hold each pose for 2 breaths
Model first time, then choose student leaders for subsequent salutations.
Community: After each sequence, have students compliment leaders. - Warrior 1 – Cue: front knee bent, back leg straight. Strength: cue to feel how this pose makes you feel strong and in control like a warrior.

- Partner Strength Test in Mountain – First with feet together, then apart.
- Strength Challenge – Student leader models pose, chooses count to hold for.
- Compliments – ask students to compliment leader.
- Archetype Game – Students start in squat position, then grow into pose for archetype and hold for 4. Then, students move for count of 8 in the way archetype would move.
