Yoga Calm Principle/Lesson Goal: Listening

Goal: help to develop a sense of listening to one’s inner self

Props/Music/Resources Required: Hoberman Sphere, Each Breath a Smile book, Anjali cd

Lesson Plan:

Calm

  • Hoberman Breathing – led by student with counter, compliments for student and counter
  • Pulse Count – 15 seconds

Activate

  • Volcano Breath – Think of someone or something you would like to send your heart thoughts to. Get the image of that person, animal or place strong in your mind. On the next volcano breath send your thoughts out to that person, animal or place.
  • Sharing – Have students share out.
  • Roots – With your body activated and eyes closed, circle right and left. Notice how the different edges of your feet feel as they touch the floor. What are you circling around?
  • Sharing – Have students share out.
  • Dancer – Visualize yourself as a superhero as you balance. Have a student or two lead.
  • Story – Read Each Breath a Smile, by Thich Nhat Hanh

Calm

  • One Minute Exploration – lights off , music on – Think about what makes your heart smile. Close your eyes and think about what you see that makes your heart smile? What do you hear that makes your heart smile? What do you smell that makes your heart smile? What do you feel that makes your heart smile? What do you taste that makes your heart smile?
  • Sharing – Have students share out.
