Yoga Calm Principle/Lesson Goal: Listening

Academic/Therapeutic/Other Goals: Increase Focus/Paying Attention/ on-going FOCUS TOOLS

Tools: Yoga Calm Poster: Positive Self-Talk, Hoberman Sphere, Chime, BK: “This morning, Sam went to Mars” (Nancy Carlson), Outer Space (roll paper), Objects for Meteors, Blind-fold scarves/hats, Scripts for “Astronaut” “Vacuum” Listening Activity, FOCUS tools ( FOAM: brain, eyeball,ear, hand, face) etc.

Lesson Plan:


  • Belly Breathing – Hoberman Sphere (Student Led)
  • Chime (Student Led)


  • Introduce FOCUS Tools – “What do you need to be a good listener?” “What tools do you use to pay attention? At home/school/park?”  Place the Identified tool end of Island (yoga mat), Set Intention (Tool they’ve “earned”)
  • Discussion – “ANTICIPATE” (review, “what problems might occur when trying something you’ve never tried before?” “will you be successful right away?” “what does it mean to be successful?” “is it ok to fall? Lose balance?” “will all of our poses look the same?” “is it ok to ‘succeed’ differently?” “what can you say to yourself with following the “POSITIVE SELF-TALK rules?”
  • Eagle (BE PATIENT!!!!)
  • Review FOCUS Tools
  • Book – “This Morning, Sam went to Mars” (Nancy Carlson)
  • Discuss Tools for success
  • Listening Activity – “ASTRONAUT” (see script)
  • Volcano Breaths (x3) –  to TRANSITION into Wounded Space Ship
  • Wounded Spaceship
  • Process – failure leads to success – Link success to FOCUS TOOLS
