Therapeutic Goals: Guide kids in identifying ways of grounding themselves, practice grounding activities and yoga poses

Props: Hoberman sphere, chimes, Mindful Moments cards, yoga mats, blocks, past/present/future worksheet, markers/pens

Yoga Calm Principle/Lesson Goal: Grounding

Lesson Plan:

Calm

  • Belly Breathing – with Hoberman Sphere
  • Tapping forehead/chest/belly with peer pushing shoulder to connect to where you feel grounded; try with saying “I am (their name)” vs. “I am (someone else)”; think something positive and true about themselves. Talk about what it means to feel grounded, what helped them feel grounded in this activity.

Activate

  • Shoulder Clock – with partners
  • Grounding Yoga Series:
    • Include chair, mountain with roots, warrior II with past/present/future imagery standing poses
    • Include boat and seated poses
    • Include plank, cobra, bow, superhero poses on belly
    • Timed tree
  • Past, Present, and Future Worksheet
  • Harassment Prevention Activity (if time)

Calm

  • Guided Relaxation – including body scan and imagery
  • Mindful Moments Cards and discussion
