Yoga Calm Principle/Lesson Goal: Grounding
Lesson Plan:
Calm
- Chime – have students give a thumbs up when they no longer hear the sound
Pinwheel- demonstrate how to make the pinwheel move and then allow each student one chance to make the pinwheel move with his/her breath - Belly Breathing – with Hoberman sphere – Have one student lead with another student counting off the selected number of breaths (3rd student picks number of breaths); have students give compliments
- Volcano Breaths – Practice these breaths to release the worries and bring in the positive, happy thoughts
Activate
- Yoga Flow – side twist (seated), cat/cow (seated with legs criss-cross), child’s pose, thread the needle, cat/cow (knees), one arm/one leg balance, cat/cow, Downward Dog, one leg lunge, side twist with one hand on ground, Downward Dog, forward fold, mountain, warrior 1, warrior 2; remind students to activate in warrior poses and to ground feet into the Earth
- Mat Tag – teach the students the game of mat tag to allow them to expend some energy
- Yoga Flow – bent knee balance, tree, circle tree, mountain, volcano breaths, forward fold, boat x3, long stretch on back, spinal twist
Calm
- Relaxation – on back- guide students through a meditation where they visualize floating as a bird high above the Earth, passing through the white, fluffy clouds
- Belly Breathing – with Hoberman sphere- switch what students count/demonstrate/pick number
- Chime – have students give a thumbs up when they no longer hear the sound
