Lesson Plan:

Calm

  • Chime – have students give thumbs up when no longer hear the sound
  • Belly Breathing – with hands on belly- teach students to learn to have deep belly breaths first before adding in the Hoberman Sphere, empathize the use of big inhale/exhale and feeling your hands rise in/out
  • Belly Breathing with Hoberman Sphere – Have one student lead with another student counting off the selected number of breaths (3rd student picks number of breaths); have students give compliments
  • Volcano Breaths – Practice these breaths to release the worries and bring in the positive, happy thoughts

Activate

  • Yoga Flow – cat/cow, Downward Dog, forward fold, mountain, side stretch, bent knee standing, tree; remind students to expand hands in Downward Dog and to breathe throughout poses
  • Group Games – hula hoops, circle tree- notice how you can help your friends and they can help you; notice how we can all activate our feet and hands to support each other in circle tree
  • Yoga Flow – mountain, forward fold, Downward Dog, child’s pose, forward fold, knees to chest, happy baby, twist, long stretch

Calm

  • Progressive Relaxation – notice how your body can squeeze all the worries and then let them float away on a soft, fluffy cloud

  • Chime – have students give thumbs up when no longer hear the sound
