Yoga Calm Principle/Lesson Goal: Stillness

Lesson Plan:

Calm

  • Belly Breathing – with Hoberman sphere – “Today we’ll be focusing on ways to find stillness and calm our bodies down. Let’s try to remember them next time you need them”
  • Volcano Breath – “let’s let out one big volcano breath to get us all focused”

Activate

  • Cat/Cow
  • Downward Dog
  • Forward Fold
  • Roots – rock forward and back to find your balance on the center of your feet. Once you find it, be still in your tall mountain pose
  • Mountain
  • Forward Fold
  • Downward Dog – be as still as you can possibly be in your down dog
  • Plank – let’s hold our plank to the count of four
  • Cobra – be a still and quiet snake in the grass trying to catch something…
  • Downward Dog
  • Forward Fold
  • Mountain
  • Tree – find stillness in your tree…while the branches and leaves may move a little, the trunk is very still

Calm

  • Relaxation – Let’s find stillness once again on our mats. Think about how good your bodies felt when you were still…let’s progressively relax from our toes to our heads. Think “I’m relaxing my toes, my toes are relaxing, my toes are relaxed…” (on and on until we finish up at our heads). Find stillness once again, and enjoy this while taking three long breaths.
